The town of Linden is located 107 km inland from Guyana’s Atlantic coast, on the east and west banks of the Demerara River. It occupies an area of approximately 140 sq km. This town which developed around the bauxite mining industry, with a population of approximately 40,000 is the main population center of Region 10, Upper Demerara/ Upper Berbice. Coomacka, Ituni, Kwakwani, and Rockstone are among other population centers accessible from Linden.

In addition to its bauxite reserves, the Linden/ Region 10 area is endowed with other resources such as gold, kaolin, laterite, and timber

Linden is ideally located to serve as the hub for economic activity and travel between Guyana’s coastal zone inclusive of Georgetown, and the vast interior of the country. This also means that Linden is central to any plans for increased economic interaction with Brazil and other South American territories.

There are advantages to business location in the Linden area. Water supply in the town is extensive and reliable, vast areas of land are available for industrial development, agriculture, housing, and storage facilities; electricity generation and supply is reliable and comparatively cheap; one of the country’s largest airport facilities sits on the outskirt of the township, and the Demerara River which passes through the center of the town is one of the country’s deepest and accommodates fairly large ocean-going vessels. The available labour force is a relatively well skilled one.
