Title: THE LINDEN ECONOMIC ADVANCEMENT PROGRAMME
TO PROVIDE SLIDESHOW WITH VOICE COMMENTARY ON
THE HISTORY, DEVELOPMENT AND CULTURE OF THE PEOPLE OF LINDEN FOR THE LINDEN
MUSEUM

1. The Linden Economic Advancement Programme (L.E.A.P)
Background
The Linden Economic Advancement Programme (L.E.A.P) proposes to develop
the market for financial and non-financial business services in Guyana
with a particular focus on the region of Linden (region 10). The Linden
region was hard hit by the decline in the bauxite sector of the country.
It therefore qualifies for support under the SYSMIN facility with the
aim to diversify and regenerate the local economy.
The activities under the programme will assist the local private sector
in creating/expanding businesses and will contribute to creating a more
favourable investment environment to compensate for the decline in mining.
It will also assist public authorities, through some infrastructure investments
and training facilities to encourage new investments in new economic sectors.
The core activities of the project, which will be operational for 7 years,
consist of business support services, provided on a cost-sharing basis
and accompanying measures including:
• a revolving credit fund, the Linden Economic Advancement Fund,
L.E.A.F;
• rehabilitation of socio-economic infrastructure;
• institutional strengthening to public and private institutions;
and
• vocational training
Overall Objectives
Creation and strengthening of viable and competitive companies, generating
new long-term jobs. This will contribute to improving the living conditions
of the community in Linden and Region 10 and to reduce social tensions.
Results
• Improved local capacity for economic planning, project design
and implementation within private and public sectors
• Improved business and finance sector
• Viable and competitive companies created
• Direct permanent jobs created by enterprises benefiting from loans
and support services
• Laid-off miners or unemployed youth receive training in employable
skills
• Public officials trained in economic and regional development
planning; executives trained in project preparation, management and proposal
writing
• Basic infrastructure upgraded
2. The Assignment
Objectives
The objective of the assignment is to arrange into slideshow with voice
commentary the history, development and culture of the people of Linden
for the Linden Museum.
Organization and Tasks
The assignment shall be carried out under the overall responsibility
of the consultant who will be responsible to the LEAP senior management
for the successful implementation and attainment of the assignment and
its objectives, respectively.
Deliverables
1. Production of DVD slideshow with voice commentary.
Key Responsibilities
The responsibilities include the following in close collaboration and
under the supervision of the Business Development Unit Manager:
• Discuss with Client suitable slides, documentary and diction for
slideshow.
• Submit draft, based on guideline agreed by Client to LEAP for
approval
• Submit Final Document.
Schedule and Location
The assignment duration is for twenty one (21) days in the period of 20th
October – 9th November, 2008. This assignment shall take place at
the LEAP Office and Linden Museum, Linden. .
Experience & Qualifications
• Bachelor of Social Sciences Degree, Communication - University
of Guyana
• Minimum of four years experience in journalism
