There has been a significant amount of work put into the option of biometrics as a part of mainstream authentication options but despite the great investments made into researching biometrics user authentication, it's not always clear for what particular platforms the technology might be best.  There are so many vulnerabilities that have been blamed on traditional password functionality which is virtually unable to be completely secure, even with significant precautions taken to ensure that there are no weaknesses regarding standard data entry of passwords. Highly secure environments have been very difficult to make completely secure because of these weaknesses.
